There is an online prerequisite to this course.  To complete the online component first, go to Course Library and select the T.R.I.A.D. online course.  This course has three broad components: 1) Threat and Hazard Awareness, Identification and Assessment; 2) Service; and 3) Defense of oneself and others through both verbal and physical interventions.

This course encapsulates, in an easy-to-understand format, what private security is about from both a proactive and reactive standpoint.  Students learn about important concepts such as situational awareness and are provided with pragmatic information to help them identify and assess the indicators of possible threats and hazards and subsequently make informed decisions on how to best ameliorate the conditions to prevent or at least to mitigate the threat or hazard.

Additionally, students will learn the elements of human conflict from a human factors standpoint, non-verbal and verbal de-escalation skills so as to defuse potential volatile situations, and some basic soft and hard empty hand self-defense techniques (many from the PPCT/HFS-TPR system) in order to provide basic but effective tools/tactics that can be used if a security officer or innocent bystander(s) come under a spontaneous physical attack.  Students will learn how to apply these tactics to create the opportunity for themselves and others to escape to safety.
